I'v been working on a new artwork, probably for prints and stuff,
not sure if its finished, can't decide if I want loads of words and stuff all over it.
Might keep it a bit simpler.

My very own bottle of deadly pumpkin juice in time for Hallowe'en...

BENMURPHY//TROU//CAPTAINKRIS
live art collaboration at Triple Hop.
As is customary at these events the artists get free beer to help them work!!
Wunderbar!

TRIPLE HOP was a big success,
it went down, people drank beer, looked at some lovely pictures,
had a good old fashioned chinwag. All the beers looked and tasted great.
It was nice to see all the artists, most of them for the first time.
The beer I've been assigned is called SPACE CHICKEN,
which I'm thrilled about because its exactly the kind of thing I like drawing.
It sounds daft but sometimes I come up with a character that's kind of believable,
rather than just a drawing, if that makes sense?
Like, nobody thinks of Mickey Mouse or Homer Simpson as just a drawing,
they exist in peoples consciousness now as real entities.

I hope its tasty, it sounds tasty.

The exhibition is gonna be at East street pop-up gallery, Warren Street on the 24th October.
The opening night will include taster samples of all the beers and printed artworks by some of the
Me and the other Column artists will all be featuring in 'Triple Hop', an exhibiton in London
showcasing 'the noble pursuits of drawing and boozing'.
Basically we've got together with Honest Brew, who have made 5
special edition beers, and we're designing the bottles. I think there's another agency called Test Space
collaborating with us so it should a merging of families getting drunk together... Like a good wedding.
Here's the logo I designed to promote the event, which I think is gonna be plastered
all over the venue as well as all the usual social media sites n stuff.
Looking forward to it...

The new theme for camera club is 'Triptychs'.
The day before the meeting, without any decent photos to work with, this
cheeky little Renard turns up in my garden.
He just sat in the same spot for hours.

(Old Work, Sold Work)
I miss working on big drawings like this.
She was my baby and I miss her terribly.
Although my house 'aint big enough for her big aaaaaasssss anymore.
Bufo Bufo

Column Arts Agency is going to feature in the next directory of illustrators, so we've all
illustrated an animal that begins with the first letter of our names.
Its good to draw things with pimples and warts so I chose a toad.

I get excited drawing toads (I find it ribbeting).

Yeah I had to colour it in.

Looking at making some prints of these for the column shop soon......

So we've set up Birmingham Camera now and
the first assignment was just to take some
interesting photos of interesting subject matter.

So I went to a livestock festival. For photographs.
I did not, repeat, NOT go to steal some rare unhatched chickens.

Or whisper 'sausages' in pigs ears.... I like pigs.

Stephen                 Trou                   Stephen              Marlon 'laser stare'             Stephen

Blurring 'ell.
A bit of new direction. I like cubic structures and
this Japanese folklore/videogame vibe.

yum yum

The tableau is out of the IKEA catalogue. Think its called skogby or
klogbo or summat bonkers.

Inks or pixels?
Can't decide.

Been working on some characters for a friend setting up a skate brand.
Just a couple of little sketches on here 'cos I don't wanna ruin it
for when they're ready to unveil the whole thang.
NICE BIG HANDS!!!!!

I did a commissioned logo for a band called 'The Hand and the Flowers' recently.
They're a really cool band that play country/folk with a twist.
They wanted something cool. Part country bumpkin, part NFL sports logo.
And I love Bisons anyway, so....

We went with this one in the end.
Personally I quite like the drippy war-paint one above but I guess it does look a bit emo.
Check 'em out if you have the time, they're good people
with good melodies.

NO WAY!
The new acropolis museum is amazing! Although I think its a lot better architecturally
than its content deserves. Its not their fault, Elgin stole all their best articles and its
about time they got them back. People there were saying that the point of building the museum
was to make a good case for the return of the marbles.
Now they have somewhere impressive to house them.
Don't look down when your there 'cos the floors made of glass sometimes
and it catches you out.

So I got this top-secret private artwork commission and the client lives in Athens!
So I got to fly over there for free and take my skecthbook and all sorts of super nonsense!
I saw some really cool street art in the centre of Athens and everyone's a shiny happy person,
Crisis, what crisis?

Got one of my microcosm drawings featured in CRACK magazine!
Centre-Fold!! Double page spread!!! Saucy!!!
Nice read aswell....

The brand new Birmingham library is opening its doors soon
and they're having a big makeover of the children's section.

I've just sent some designs over to see if they like my ways.
The theme of the whole thang is Parker games and books... Monopoly/Risk/Cluedo etc.
Dunno if I'll get it though, the mood board they sent over was pretty and watercolour-y.

Its Festival season! and T-in-the-Park asked me to design some T-shirts for their 20th birthday! I used the same sorta design as the sketch I did recently. He's a big boozy Scot but he's on the water cos he's pacing himself, Mark Owens on now and god forbid he's all burnt out for Mumford and sons. Although Yeahyeahyeahs are on Sunday so don't look so glum friend. I'm 1/4 Scottish or something myself and I can confirm everyone in Scotland rocks this way.
Big shout out to the Robertsons of Struan!
Thanks to Yolandi Vi$$er and Ninja for teaching me the meaning of 'Zef Style'. I did this little hairy fella listening to 'Beat Boi' but I don't feel like drawing legs today. You don't need legs if the hand gestures are powerful enough.

I was asked by my cousin to design her a logo for setting up a card company called 'Little-Bo-Peeple'.
We went with a kind of simple mini-stamp concept so she could have it made as stickers/stamps/tags etc.Small and snappy.

I applied for an arts job in Manchester and part of the application was to produce a billboard with an important message for the public. The world needs saving. So first things first...

Tequila!

I'm gonna be making a line of booze themed t-shirts. The spirits that hurt the most. Probably gonna do another two or three i think.

A drawing for an article about beards. As splendid as they are, they can really weigh your chin down.

Monday, 5 March 2012

Will Astbury at Column Arts Agency got me to come up with a cover design for my favourite book to promote me and the other artists at the agency (whose work is the shiz, incidently).I did Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas cos it suits the way i draw even though its not really my favourite book... i just like it some.

I've got a artist buddy in Denmark called Daniel Van Der Noon... http://cargocollective.com/vandernoon ..who's gonna finish this drawing off for me (kind of like a visual pen pal), its a little idea we'v been working on where one of us starts a drawing off and the other finishes it and can change it as much as they want, get it? Yeah, course you do, its not complicated. So I'm giving it to a postman to take for me. I drew more than this but i don't wanna spoil the surprise.

THIS IS A DRAWING FOR EVISU JEANS TO CELEBRATE THEIR 20TH BIRTHDAY. ITS GONE OFF ON A TOUR OF THE FAR EAST WITHOUT ME. THE THEME WAS 'MAKE YOU OWN RULES' AND IT FEATURES THE JAPANESE FISHING GOD EBISU, BUT HE KINDA LOOKS LIKE 'THE GREAT' STROMBOLI FROM PINOCCHIO SOMEHOW...

CLOUD 9.2

IF ANYBODY WANTS TO USE THIS AS AN ALBUM COVER....? THERE'S PROBABLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU.

The story so far..

THE FINISHED ARTICLE! I DID THIS WALL DRAWING IN BIRMINGHAM FOR THE KIND FOLKS OF VISUALISE FESTIVAL. THERE WERE CHILDREN SMILING, LAUGHING AND INTERFERING. TONY HART'S APOCALYPTIC VISION OF THE FUTURE....

THE HALFWAY STAGE OF 'FLOTSAM. PROBABLY ABOUT 5 EMPTY PENS IN AT THIS POINT. ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO TOTALLY WASTE A DAY I RECKON.

HERE SHE IS IN HER BESPOKE BUILT HABITAT. I MIGHT RENAME HER GLORIA INSTEAD NOW I'VE GOTTEN TO KNOW HER. ABOUT 3 WEEKS OF HAND CRAMP RIGHT THERE.

EXTREME CLOSE-UP.
